Leipzig/Halle - A top logistics location
Introduction
As the Leipzig/Halle region with its large cargo airport acts as a European gateway and logistics hub logistics service providers in particular have agglomerated in this area. Especially companies of the automotive industry, e-commerce and retail have located there. The region is an important junction on the transregional rail network. Along the well-developed and congestion-free freeways A9 and A14 most of the logistics companies can be found. Additionally the freight village Leipzig is situated there.
Availability of sites
Due to numerous major investments in recent years the portfolio of logistics property in the region has drastically declined, especially at the sought-after locations along freeways A9 and A14 as well as near Leipzig/Halle airport. Also around the city of Leipzig only sparse sites are left. Companies interested in sites switch to the hinterland.

New developments trend

Labor market
The high unemployment rate provides some potential for short-term workers. The relatively low cost of labor adds to the region’s attractiveness as a logistics location.
Economic structures
Leipzig/Halle has the second biggest cargo airport in Germany. The share of logistics property being held by e-commerce, retail and the automotive industry is above average.
